Owen's Baby Blessing

The boys
We could not pass up the opportunity to bless Owen on December 29th while my dad, brother, and Mariah's husband Zach were all here for Christmas. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, babies are given a name and a blessing within a few months of their birth. It opens up their record in the church, and gives them a blessing from Heavenly Father to begin their life. Men who hold the Priesthood stand in a circle holding the infant in their arms while the father gives the blessing. For Landon's baby blessing, we just had friends in the circle because my family was not able to make it out. Typically, baby blessings are done in church on Sundays. Because my family was not going to be in Chicago on a Sunday, we arranged with our Bishop to have Owen's blessing at our home. He came over to stand in the circle for the blessing and we're grateful for his willingness to work with us and our schedule!

Austin gave Owen a beautiful blessing! He blessed him that Owen will have a full and fruitful life and that he will grow strong physically and spiritually. He blessed Owen that he will be a good example to family, friends, and everyone around him. He blessed him that as he prepared to serve a mission, he should listen to the promptings of the Spirit. He blessed him that he could find a woman that he loves and that he can take to the temple to be sealed for time and eternity. He said that Heavenly Father has great things in store for Owen.

All of the family Priesthood participants... and Landon
We're grateful that our family could come out for Christmas and for Owen's blessing. It was wonderful to share that with them, and in such an intimate setting. Owen wore the same outfit that Landon wore for his blessing, except with a new tie that Grandma Ev got him for Christmas. Owen is wider in the shoulders than Landon, and was a few weeks older for his blessing, so the vest that goes with the outfit did not quite fit. He was nice and quiet during the blessing, but I think that was because the men in the circle were bouncing him up and down to keep him happy. We can already see the differences between Owen and Landon in their personalities. Landon always had a fire in his eyes and we could tell he was going to be a firecracker. Owen has a softer look in his eyes and a really calm and laid back personality. It will be fun to watch him grow up and see the man that he will become one day!
