Luke's Birth Story

Image
Monday, April 26th was a busy day. I knew that there was a strong possibility that I would still be pregnant, and I was, despite the strong, but inconsistent contractions I had been experiencing for several weeks. There was even an evening the previous week where I was having strong contractions every 2-3 minutes for over an hour. My contraction timing app told me to go to the hospital several times, but I knew that I needed to try laying down first, so I went to bed. And of course, the contractions stopped. So that Monday, we went to an ophthalmologist appointment for Owen in San Antonio, followed by the children's museum and Shake Shack. Thankfully, my mother-in-law had flown into town the afternoon previously, so I had a helper for this outing that made it doable with Owen and Elena and very pregnant me. We got home just in time to pick up Landon from school, make dinner, and head to Landon's baseball game. Everyone commented how they couldn't believe I was still pregna

Landon is 8! We had an awesome few days down in Corpus Christi with family at the beach and then the main event- Landon was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on his birthday, August 23rd. Interview with a 7-year-old

I can't even believe I have a 7-year-old. On Landon's birthday, we had What-a-burger for lunch and Vietnamese pho for dinner. The next day, we had a friend birthday party- Jurassic World themed! We had a perfect amount of friends come and we did a baseball diamond slip n slide, pinata, dinosaur scavenger hunt, and cake and ice cream. I made a 2-tier dinosaur and jungle cake.It looked great but the white cake layer ended up a little funky. The chocolate was delicious though. I think Landon had fun with his friends. As I always do, we did the interview and added a few questions. It is interesting how little the answers have changed throughout the years.  Favorite: Color: blue Letter: "L" because it's the first letter in my name Animal: Leopard because it's a skilled hunter Dinosaur: T rex because of its name meaning School subject: science Brand: LEGO Activity: Play Number: 100,000 because it's huge Sea creature: shark Food: p

Elena's Birth Story

Image
At the Alamo, 40 weeks + 2 days pregnant I'm a sucker for birth stories. I love reading about the sacrifices women make to bring these sweet, innocent babies into the world. The strength displayed in first growing babies and all of the associated discomforts for 9-10 months, followed by the extraordinary feat of bringing said baby into the world, no matter how that occurs, is inspiring. Elena definitely came on her own terms, and I'm so glad she did! Although, in the days and weeks leading up to her birth date, it was exhausting and frustrating waiting! My due date was March 19th. The first week of March, I woke up in the middle of the night with contractions and feeling super nauseous. I couldn't go back to sleep or get comfortable, so I sat in the living room, thinking about how odd it was for me to have contractions so early before her due date. Looking back, I think I had a tummy bug, but that's beside the point. I canceled chaperoning Landon's field t
