Livengoods take Montana de Oro!

Grandpa and Landon checking out the blowhole
Walking the trail to the tidepools
In April, we spent two weeks in California soaking up the sun and introducing Owen to his extended family. Austin flew out with us, and Greg surprised us by flying in for the weekend as well to see his darling nephews. We were bummed it was too rainy and cold to have a proper beach day that weekend, but we did manage to have a rain-free trip to Montana de Oro tidepools. Although it was high tide when we got there, we managed to see some creatures, and more importantly, Landon burnt off some energy after being stuck inside because of the weather.
Getting ready to dip

Checking out the wet sand...

Owen had his first experience with the ocean. The water was frigid, so he was not thrilled when Austin dipped his feet in. Hopefully he will warm up to it later, perhaps with warmer water!
Mid-dip unhappiness

Owen had a great time being passed around between grandparents, Aunt Claire, Uncle Greg and mom and dad. He instantly relaxed as we neared the ocean, just listening to the sound of the waves and the nice breeze. Although he did not enjoy the water, I think he did enjoy the general environment.

Wading and wave chasing with Landon

Found a sea creature!

Owen likes sand!

Since our normal tidepooling spot was covered by the tide, we explored another tide pool spot across the beach and Landon was brave enough to touch some of the sea creatures this time! He loved walking across the rocks (it is a major balance challenge!) and playing with family in the waves.

Checking out the anemones and urchins in the one exposed tidepool
After we checked out the tidepools and were done wading by the beach, we went up by the bluff and searched for tiny shells and sea glass in the pebbly sand. It was relaxing and fun to just all sit in the sand and talk. Landon pretended to be a bulldozer and played in the sand with the rest of the family.
