Colorado Update

On May 7th, Austin and I moved most of our stuff into a storage unit, and took some of our clothes and our computers with us to Arvada, CO to live with Austin's parents for the summer. You could say that we just moved home for the free rent, but I thought it would be nice for Austin's parents to have him around since I have been stealing him away for several years now and they haven't really gotten to spend much time with him since his mission which began in May of 2007.  I have an internship with Alpha Rehab in Broomfield, CO for physical therapy, but Austin does not have anything yet, although there are some job opportunities that look promising for him.

The original caption for this picture was "Arvada is an ideal Colorado community"

We have spent the past few weeks "working" for Austin's grandparents. It took Austin 2 weeks to paint their textured wood fence, due to power washing, health problems,  inclement weather, and finally grandpa making him use a brush to paint the fence for 2 days. After the 2nd day, grandpa decided perhaps painting the fence with a paint sprayer would be easier on his pocket book. And Austin finished the 5/6 remaining fence in... gasp... a little less than 4 hours. Now he is going to start painting the house. Hooray. While Austin works outside, I am helping Grandma, who can't really clean/organize anymore due to various medical conditions, around the house. So far, I have dusted and vacuumed, cleaned out every cupboard/cabinet in the kitchen, cleaned out a chest of drawers filled with address labels and gift wrapping ribbon, cleaned out a shelf in the utility room, and helped save pictures from water damage by organizing them by decade into plastic bins. I threw away food and spices that expired in the 70s. I consolidated 6 jars of oregano into 2 jars.  The best part so far has been taking 8 garbage bags full of cool stuff that they didn't need anymore to the local ARC (DI, Goodwill synonym). Oh, and throwing 4 more garbage bags full of garbage away. Although tiring and sometimes frustrating, this is a blessing in our life to be able to make a little money before I start my non-paid internship, and Austin starts sitting at home doing nothing looking for jobs. :)

  1. first off: so glad that his grandparents LET you throw things away...that's been the hardest part of "helping" Justin's parents get their house ready to sell...second off: it sounds like a grand adventure for the summer! I'm excited for y'all! I love your updates.

  2. Well, I didn't mention that we kept probably over 1 million address labels and hundreds of gift bags (even though grandma is going to be giving gift cards instead of presents from now on). I feel your pain. You are so close to having another sweet baby! That is so awesome. Hopefully someday we can meet her :)
