Saturday Night Date Night

Austin and I went on a relatively cheap, and AWESOME date last weekend. We went to Terra Mia, an authentic Italian pizzeria for dinner. This place makes fresh pizzas with very thin crusts in an oven imported from Napoli! Austin loves speak Italian with the Neopolitan* employees and eat pizza that reminds him of Italy. Also, they have coupons on restaurant.com that allow us to buy $25 worth of food for $15. That means a pizza each (leftovers!) and gelato all for $15! On top of that, we are trying to earn airline miles so that we can go to Italy when we graduate next April/May. Terra Mia is a restaurant that helps us earn miles for every dollar we spend. Basically it's great food and an awesome deal. We love Terra Mia.
*Neopolitan= people from Napoli! I learn something new every day!

Christ in Gethsemane
Next, we went to the BYU Museum of Art's current exhibit, "Carl Bloch: The Master's Hand". This exhibit requires tickets but the tickets are free! If you are in Utah, or will be in Utah before May, you need to see this exhibit. It is gorgeous. There were I-pads to rent that told about the context of each painting, had panoramic views of the inside and outside of the churches they were set in, and great segments of talks by General Authorities of the LDS church about Jesus Christ. Carl Bloch was a Danish artist that specialized in depicting scenes from the life of Christ. His paintings have been used by the LDS church for use in magazines, manuals, the gospel art kit, and even in meetinghouses. Right now at the MOA, there are 5 very large altar pieces. These were painted for churches in Denmark. Somehow, BYU convinced the churches to take them out and ship them to Utah for the exhibit. I counted it as a once in a lifetime kind of experience, since I don't know if I will ever make it to Denmark to see these paintings in their natural habitats. Here are the big pieces (excluding the one acquired by BYU a few years ago that has been hanging in the museum and will continue to be there for years to come.)

Along with the altar pieces, there were other works by Carl Bloch that are also worth seeing. This exhibit made me think about Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for me and for all mankind. I loved the Christ in Gethsemane painting. The fancy-schmancy art critics said that this painting is an unusual portrayal of Gethsemane, as it shows an angel comforting Him and He seems to be completely exhausted. What it showed me is that He was a human being. He came to earth to receive a body and live the perfect life. He suffered for our sins in Gethsemane. He bled from every pore. He took upon Himself our pains, our weaknesses, our imperfections, our sins and our sorrows. He felt every emotion anyone could ever feel. He died and then overcame death so that we might have the chance to do the same.  He did this because He loved(and still loves) us and wants us to be happy in this life. He wanted to be able to succor us in any situation we may find ourself in. What a tremendous gift He has given each of us- the gift of immortality and eternal life.
