Landon's Life at 2 years, 9 months

It's been awhile since a Landon update, and he is continually growing and changing into a big boy. Here are some highlights from the past month or so:

  • Landon has started playing pretend. ALL THE TIME. Whether it be with his cars creating elaborate story lines with rescues and friendships, or being a pirate in a pillow boat, he makes up some neat stories. Today, I was talking to my mom and he crawled into my lap with his blanket and said that he was my baby koala. He then started addressing me as mommy koala. He also makes nests with his blanket or pillows and "lays eggs." Then he makes me come check on his eggs. Sometimes he calls me "Aunt Net," my aunt who has chickens, when he wants me to gather his eggs. It is fun to have such an imaginative, talkative boy!
  • Speaking of talking, Landon's vocabulary has exploded. He talks non-stop and says some really funny things. Whenever we are on the phone with anyone, he wants to talk to them. Typically, he says something completely off the wall, but sometimes he tells them about the things that we did during the day. He also started singing more lately at the top of his lungs. Most notably, he scream sings "Nephi's Courage" with his blanket wrapped around him as a skirt while jumping on the bed. I'm not sure how he associated the blanket skirt and jumping with this song specifically, but it is the cutest. He also sings various nursery songs and some songs from music videos on his tablet, including "Where is the Cake?" and "We are the Dinosaurs" complete with marching. At church last week, he sang all three verses of "I Am a Child of God" with us in sacrament meeting very loudly. He didn't quite have the timing down right, so it was very noticeable and sweet to hear him singing a little behind like a descant. He likes the rhyming game/song "Landon Landon bo bandon-banana-fana-fo-fandon." Austin taught him that and it is really cute when he yell-sings different words, except when he does it with the word "truck" for obvious reasons.
  • Playing at the Fire Zone!
  • Family movie nights are a huge hit and we do them every couple of weeks. He really enjoys every movie and recognizes the characters when we see them around later. So far, we have watched Despicable Me, Planes: Fire and Rescue, and Muppet Treasure Island. He thinks the whole idea of taking a bath early and doing a movie before bed to be really fun and novel.

  • We gave Landon the worst haircut in the world a few weeks ago. We started with the longest clipper setting, but it wasn't really working so we went to the next setting and it was super, super short. I did the back and sides with the super short setting, and then went back to the longer setting for the top and top of sides. It was uneven and Landon had a ton of hair before the haircut, so I was under the impression that we were flying to China in a few days, so I didn't really care that much, but it was embarrassing going to church with his hair butchered. It is growing out and looking better now. At least it is short and a good summer cut!
  • He still loves sports, and is especially enthralled with baseball currently. He was playing with a stick and rock earlier on this spring, so I finally caved and got him a dollar store ball and bat. He can't quite hit it every time yet, but he loves practicing swinging and pitching. He also likes to watch golf, hockey, and really every other sport.
    Beaching
  • Landon is really getting into saying prayers. For months, he was unwilling to even fold his arms without help, and then over the past month or so, he has decided he wants to say morning and evening prayers by himself. He gets stuck a lot and mostly just says things he is grateful for, but it is so sweet to hear him talking to Heavenly Father. We know he is excited for going to China because he says he is grateful for going to China in every. single. prayer.
  • Landon currently is wearing clothes from 3T-5T, depending on brand and article of clothing. He's just a big boy!
  • Potty training is continuing and we made large strides the last week or so. Before that, Landon would let me know when he needed to poop, but for #1 I would just take him every 1.5 hour or so and he never had any accidents. I have been trying to help him be more independent by teaching him how to go by himself, and the last few days, he had recognized that he had to go, gone to the bathroom, and taken care of it all by himself without help or messes! It's a big day, people!
  • He loves books! When we are back in Chicago area, we go to the library and check out a ton of books to read with him. He loves to be read to, but also loves to look through the pictures and sometimes even "read" them to himself. I try to pick out a good mix of transportation, sports, and classic books that I enjoyed as a child. He really enjoys anything about trains, planes, buses, etc, but LOVES Thomas the Tank Engine books and Planes books. It is fun to see him enjoy books that I enjoyed as a child!
  • Bowling!
  • Landon has a great memory. He regularly recalls specific events and recounts them in detail from memory from as far back as last summer at his birthday party. If prompted with pictures, he can go back further than that. He will recall very specific sequences from Indonesia that come out of nowhere! It is comforting to know that he will remember some of our adventures. Although he doesn't have as many toys or a backyard to romp around in, he has amazing memories. He remembers the elephants in Indonesia, exploring the windmill in the Netherlands and the tuwips. He remembers the alligators in Louisiana and our dear friend, Mrs. Titi in Indonesia and the monkeys we went to see with her. Our life is unconventional, but in some ways it is awesome!
