Dinosaur Bones and Landon's Birthday Party!

The cake
In Colorado, we celebrated Landon's birthday early because Austin's cousin was getting married on his birthday. We had great-grandparents over as well as cousins around Landon's age and a great-aunt. We had hot dogs, chips, watermelon, gold fish, jello cups, and a monster truck cake- all of Landon's favorite things right now, as well as chicken and veggie skewers for the adults.

Love his face!

Evelyn and Austin set up a kiddy pool with slide and some toys while I decorated the cake. The frosting was a little too liquidy for the grass effect that I was going for, but I think that it tasted good and Landon loved that there were monster trucks on it.

Landon enjoyed playing in the water, although I think he found it a little unsettling when Austin's cousin's two boys came to play and he had to share the space. I think he is used to playing at the park or other kids' houses, but not necessarily having kids play with him on his home turf. He eventually warmed up and played well with them, but struggled to share his new presents.

Loves his trucks!
Although he is getting better at opening multiple presents, the gifts that he received at this party made it so difficult for him to continue opening. He received three awesome trucks in a row, and then just wanted to play with them instead of opening more. I was able to move him along to open all of the gifts from people who were guests at the party, and we took a break before he opened up gifts from mom and dad and grandparents. He loves all his gifts and we are going to be switching out his toys so that he can bring much of the cool stuff with him to Singapore!

Digging for fossils

On a slightly thunderstormy and rainy afternoon, we were looking for something to do. Our original plan was a hike, but we didn't want to get rained out. I looked up Dinosaur Ridge, a place where you could go and see fossils and stuff of dinosaurs, as well as fake dinosaurs. We got to the parking lot and found out that the trail was up the road a ways, and there was a shuttle to take, but the last shuttle had left prior to us arriving. We could walk it, but it was sprinkling and so we decided against it. Landon liked looking at the big dinosaurs and digging for fossils. It was a fun activity for something short and easy that got Landon out of the house. I'm sure the trail would have been much more exciting had we had the time.
